My Vision Board

Dr. Sorensen is having us make vision boards on Monday for Professional Development and I have been making some pages to use with Photoshop. I thought I'd share what I have created here. These are visions for my future.

Photoshop

Guess what I bought on Saturday? You guessed it! Photoshop Elements 7. It's kind of hard to use and get used to, especially since I have to compete for a chance to use it with the kids. Janna is a natural and I've already picked up some tips from her and Amberly. I'm experimenting with making headers so hopefully you'll be patient as I refine my header skills. Or maybe I should say develop my skills. It's been fun to learn something new.

Cammie's Concert

Cammie's Chamber Choir sang at the honor choir concert in Syracuse tonight. Have you ever been to Syracuse? It's way the heck out there west of Layton. Kevin says we were out in woopwoop. We're just glad we found it in time to hear Cammie. They sounded great.

Cammie and Lindsay having fun on a Saturday night.

Winter Social

The kindergarten team and Dr. Sorensen were in charge of the winter social this year at school. We had a potato bar, games and a book exchange. It was a lot of fun.

We had a simple potato bar, but sometimes simple really is the best. Everyone helped with toppings and dessert. It turned out yummy.

We had great dinner conversation about "of course" what books we enjoyed. We were in the library after all. Hopefully Kevin and Kerry (Kris' husband) weren't too bored with our conversation.

We played the name game. It is sooo fun. I love acting like a fool sometimes.

Cute Marci and Ashely. We have a great team. Go Kindergarten.

Marci taught us human fooz ball. I took pictures, but it sure looked fun. Kevin's team won by a point. What a fun night.

TV Confessions

OK Marci and Heather,
So I guess I'll make my Blog TV confessions too. Here is my watch list:

Survivor-I always like to think about how I'd do. sometimes I think, "I could totally do that!" Then I think about not washing my face for a month, not shaving for a month and, dare I say it,not plucking my face for a month and I realize there is NO WAY it will ever happen.

Lost-I've watched this since it started and just can't seem to stop even though it's starting to annoy me.

ER-I've also watched this since it started like FOREVER ago. It still makes me cry sometimes.

Private Practice-Yes Heather. I'm such a hypocrite. I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy because it just seemed to be not so appropriate, but here I am watching the spin off that's just as bad. This one pulls my heart strings sometimes too.

Numb3rs-It hasn't made me like math any more than before, but it's a fun show.

Eli Stone-This is one of my favorites. It's quirky and silly and sweet and pulls my tears out too.

Bones-I love this show. I wish some new ones would come on soon.

Crusoe-Jeffrey and I recently discovered this show and have been watching it together on the internet.

The Unit-Another guilty pleasure.

NCIS-This one is evidence that a spinoff can be better than the one it spun off of. I liked JAG, but NCIS is better.

Life-I'd love some new episodes of this show. I hope NBC keeps this one.

The Closer-Kevin makes fun of me for watching this, but I still enjoy it.

Burn Notice-It's almost time for some new episodes here too. I got started in the summer when there wasn't much to watch.

Monk-Ha, ha, ha. It's so funny, but kind of sad too.

Raising the Bar-Got to get some lawyer stuff in.

Leverage-Just started this one and the jury is still out on if I'll keep watching.

WOW that's alot of TV. Especially considering it's been probably 6 months since I've sat down and watched TV on the TV. I watch all of these shows on the internet. I like the convenience of watching when I want to and only having one commercial at a time even if it's the same one over and over. I'll watch almost no TV during the week and then on the week-end I play catch up. The only problem with it is when people talk about a show before I've seen it.

Well I don't know if I feel better about myself after making this blog confession or not. That's alot of TV. Don't you LOVE IT!

Osgood-Schlatter

Jeffrey has been complaining for quite awhile that his knees hurt. I am not a run to the doctor kind of mom unless it's obviously an emergency. I had him take ibuprofen and ice them and still he complained. Finally I took him to the doctor yesterday and had them take x-rays and I find out he has a scary disease. Well not really, but the name is scary. I'll let you read what we found on the internet and see what the athlete has in store. I think he'll live even if this means he can't play baseball for a couple of months.

Osgood-Schlatter Disease: A Cause of Knee Pain in Children

What is Osgood-Schlatter disease?

Osgood-Schlatter (say: "oz-good shlot-ter") disease is one of the most common causes of knee pain in young athletes. It causes swelling, pain and tenderness just below the knee, over the shin bone (also called the tibia). It occurs mostly in boys who are having a growth spurt during their pre-teen or teenage years. One or both knees may be affected.

What causes Osgood-Schlatter disease?

It is believed that Osgood-Schlatter disease results from the pull of the large powerful muscles in the front of the thigh (called the quadriceps). The quadriceps join with the patellar tendons, which run through the knee and into the tibia, to connect the muscles to the knee. When the quadriceps contract, the patellar tendons can start to pull away from the shin bone, causing pain.

This problem becomes more noticeable during activities that require running, jumping or going up or down stairs. It's most common in young athletes who play football, soccer or basketball or are involved in gymnastics and ballet.

Osgood-Schlatter disease usually goes away with time. When your child stops growing, the pain and swelling should go away because the patellar tendons become much stronger. Only rarely does Osgood-Schlatter disease persist beyond the growing stage.

Your doctor may want to examine your child and get a knee x-ray to make sure the pain isn't caused by something else.

How is Osgood-Schlatter disease treated?

Your doctor may tell your child to cut down on time spent playing sports until the pain has been gone for 2 to 4 months. Your child may need to avoid any activity that requires deep knee bending. Your child may also need to run at a slower speed or for a shorter amount of time and jump less often.

How should my child's pain be treated?

If pain develops, ice should be applied to some areas. Using ice can help prevent swelling and pain. The knee should be wrapped with an elastic bandage and elevated.

A memory aid that may help remind you of these four basic treatment steps is the word "RICE":

R = Rest the knee from the painful activity.

I = Ice the affected area for 20 minutes, 3 times a day.

C = Compress the painful area with an elastic bandage.

E = Elevate the leg.

If these treatment steps don't work, your doctor may suggest that your child wear braces that will reduce tension on the patellar tendons and quadriceps. Pain relievers such as aspirin or ibuprofen (some brand names: Advil, Motrin) may reduce the pain and swelling. Your child may need to use crutches for a while to allow complete healing. As a last resort, your child's doctor may suggest surgery.

Honor Choir

Amberly had the wonderful opportunity to be part of a 200 person honor choir conducted by Craig Jessop, this week-end. They practiced on Friday at American Fork High School, then again Saturday and Saturday night they performed in the Provo Tabernacle. They did a beautiful job and I know Amberly had an exhausting, but wonderful experience.

Winter Wonderland

There is a house across the street from the Jr. High that has been creating this ice structure for the past few weeks. As near as we can tell, they have a couple of sprinklers that they turn on and let the water freeze. I can't tell how they shape it the way they have, but it sure is beautiful and gives us something beautiful to enjoy as we shiver.

Watch It!

I love watches! I'm not much into jewelry, but I love to wear watches. I usually get a new one for Christmas every year. I especially like bracelet watches. All of the watches pictured are bracelet watches. I also have a sport watch that isn't pictured because it's waiting for a new battery. Over the Christmas break I was at Ross buying a new coat and suddenly this horrible high pitched sound started. I thought it was coming from somewhere in the store, but when I went to the checkout stand the checker started complaining about the noise and trying to figure out where it was coming from. As I moved my arm, I realized it was me making the horrible screeching sound. The battery was dying on my sport watch and letting me know in a very unpleasant way. I apologized and quickly stuffed my watch in my pocket to deaden the piercing noise. When I got in the car I had to sit on my watch to deaden the sound all the way home. I hope to have a new battery soon to enjoy my sport watch again. Thanks Mom! It's all your fault!

More Snow!

Cammie and Janna helped me shovel today and ended up playing like little girls in the snow. Don't you wish you could still play like a little girl?

Mary Tyler Moore

Kevin thinks I'm silly, but I have to confess that I love the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I think it's funny and clean and I love the way she dresses. Even the kids like to watch it with me. I watch it on the internet @ Hulu.com. I just wish they had all of the seasons on. Do you think I'm silly too?

New Year's Eve

We celebrated New Year's Eve at our house with the Jones, Crimans, Daniels and Williams. We played games, ate lots of good food, laughed until we cried, yawned until our jaws hurt, opened white elephant gifts-again, and finally went off to bed. Thanks for bringing in the New Year with us friends. We hope to spend many more fun times with you in 2009.

Remembering 2008

This is a very small glimpse of our 2008 memories. It was fun to go back and look at the year in pictures as I created this post. I could only show a small amount of the memories we made. I can't wait to see what 2009 will bring. As long as it involves my family and friends I know it will be great.
