Cammie's Big Day

Well Cammie's big day has finally arrived. After 6 1/2 years of braces, she had the great unveiling today. We headed up to Primary Children's Hospital, where Cammie's Orthodontist has his practice. He's a specialist in Craniofacial orthodontics. His name is Duane Yamashiro and we first met him while Cammie was still in the womb. He started taking care of her teeth when she had her second surgery at 10 months old. He has been a really big part of our lives for 15 years. I'll get a picture of him next time.
Here is Cammie brushing her teeth with braces for the last time at home. The next time she was brace free.
Here she is getting the wires and brackets taken off. Some of them had grown into her gums she had them so long and it was tough to get them off.
She had to wear these cute glasses to protect her eyes as they drilled all the glue off her teeth.
Because her braces had fake teeth on them, she looked kind of silly with them off. But not for long.
After being at Dr. Yamashiro's for about an hour, we headed to Crown Burger. Cammie wanted a hamburger for lunch. She said it was the best burger she's ever had. I told her it's just because it doesn't taste like metal.
We had a bit of a wait until her appointment with Dr. Liddell, so we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa at the Family History Library and then visited the Church History Museum. We headed to Dr. Liddell's office early because we had no more change for the meter and they called just as we were pulling up to say they were ready for us early.
Dr. Liddell and Alisa worked on Cammie for 4 hours and 15 minutes. They made 7 molds at different times in her progression. I won't get into the details here, but believe me when I say this man does great work.
One of the many molds made of Cammie's mouth during this long, but worth it process.
Finally the final result is unveiled. It's kind of like Extreme Makeover, don't you think.

We are so grateful to Drs. Yamashiro and Dr. Liddell for the beautiful result of Cammie's smile. Dr. Liddell said it well when he apologized for taking so long, but said he wanted to make her smile match her beautiful eyelashes. I think he succeded. You're beautiful Cammie.
