Family Home Evening

I have a strong testimony of Family Home Evening. Kevin and I decided years ago to have regular FHE with our children. Over the years it has evolved into a pretty routine thing. Our kids make sure we have it now. We have found that it helps to have a monthly outline so we aren't trying to decide Monday evening what we will be doing. For us it works to pretty much do the following: 1st Monday; Journals and/or missionary letters. 2nd Monday; lesson by whoevers month it is. (We are each in charge of 2 months a year) 3rd Monday; Out to eat. (To practice trying new foods and using restaurant manners) 4th Monday; Activity or game night. 5th Monday; lesson again.

This is subject to change, but when there isn't a specific reason to change it we pretty much follow this schedule. It works well for us.

This week, we were out of order because of the holiday and decided to go out to eat since we hadn't yet this month. We ended up having our friends the Daniels and Crimans come and since the Crimans were going to Cabelas we joined them after dinner. I took my camara and got some snaps at Cabelas. Happy Family Night.

McKay, Cammie and Kevin playing a game-Nathan looks on as Jeffrey eats some candy and Lori takes a picture with her phone.

Colton, Kristen and Amberly posing with Sister Ruiz after stealing some of her fries. I think Amberly has missed Kristen while she's been away at college, what do you think?

RaeAnn and Kevin-Jeffrey and Kevin.

Janna and Cammie having some fun pretending to sled.

Bill and Kevin pose with our friend Chris Ruiz who cooks at the Cabela's cafe.
Janna getting some target practice.

Looks like fun! I love that you do certain things on certain weeks. Thats a good way to do it. We are hit and miss. But there is always room to improve.

Glad to see it is working for you. I especially love the eating out part. I'm hungry right now. I think planning out the month is a great idea. We need to working on getting a little more organized. We have a great chart that I made at our R.S. craft day. It helps to keep us on track, but we seem to throw everything together right before. Little by little we will get it right.

love ya,
Jenn

Great ideas! Planning out the month ahead of time is definitely a good idea. We're very consistent, but our FHE's are usually a story from the Friend, and discussing the ideas from it (it seems to work with our age of kids). It's nice to know that things evolve and deepen.

It's been fun to read your blog and catch up!

Love you! Mary

I have always admired the way you have your FHE planned out for the month. When the girls are older I think I will take that on as well. For now, it is small lessons on easy topics, and FHE only lasts about 10 min... oh well, at least we try.

You guys are so good, we have had spurts of FHE but with Robert often working nights we have had a hard time making a real scheule. We do try and make it a point to spend a lot of time together even if it's not always orgized and scheuled.
